Newsletter Spring 2026

Boraston Parish Newsletter - March 2026

Welcome to the Boraston Parish Meeting Spring newsletter.

For details on any of the subjects below please see the Parish Meeting website.

CornBrook Bridge

The CornBrook Bridge repairs have finally been completed and whilst road closed signs are up the road is currently passable. This may change dependant on Seven Trent work.

The road bridge is quite muddy but we have been promised by Shropshire Highways that a road sweeper vehicle will clear the road sometime this week.

Seven Trent Water Mains Replacement

The first new 400m of water main from Dinthill Barn to the CornBrook bridge have been installed and the properties connected. The road has been made good by STW.

They will now move to Burford and plan to start work up towards the village. We have been told that there will be rolling road closures for the next 6 months on the Cleobury road.

Roads, Potholes and Road Signs

After comments that that single mirror on the T-Junction was a great improvement but two would be better, the Parish Trust (the owner of assets on behalf of the Parish Meeting) purchased a second mirror that was installed in January. This should greatly improve visibility at the junction but with the road closed since the start of the new year we have yet to realise its full benefits.

We again have potholes re-appearing across the village. Some roads such as the road to Whatmore seems to be one continuous pothole after another. Please keep reporting them via FixMyStreet – they do get repaired eventually.

Highways have told us that they will repaint the road signs i.e. Slow and junction white lines on the Cleobury road over the summer having escalated to our District Councillor. No date yet, but we will continue to chase them.

We met with the Police liaison officer late last year and discussed the lack of road signs such as blind junction or beware horses. Because the Cleobury road is not even a B-road Highways have little interest but we are pursuing these from a safety perspective.

Planning

For those who have been interested in the Burford proposed development, with over 90 Planning Application comments (all negative) Burford Council have met with the developer and the consultation period has been extended.  Fingers crossed that common sense prevails.

Footpaths and Bridleways

At the November Parish Meeting we talked about forming a group to improve access to the various footpaths and bridleways across the Parish. We have met with Nash Parish Council and with Shropshire Council’s Rights of Way Officer Brian Hickson and have an initial circular loop of footpaths we want to improve.

Shropshire will provide (at no cost) footpath signs, gates, markers and training, we the parishioners just need to do the installation and maintenance work.

We have an initial half day training and work day on the 20th March with Brian.

If you would like to get involved in this work then please email chair@borastonparish.co.uk and we can share the details. No prior skills or knowledge needed.

We are planning recurring work parties for about half a day on the second Friday of every month staring at 9am, on the following dates.

Any volunteers for some, or all of the dates below would be appreciated. The work is very rewarding - ie installing a new footpath stile or gate can be finished in one session with sufficient volunteers.

Litter Pick

We are planning a Parish litter pick for Saturday 11th April.

If you are able to be involved please email clerk@borastonparish.co.uk as we want to co-ordinate areas so most of our parish gets covered.

The friends of Nash & Boraston Churches are organising a family walk & Easter Egg Hunt on the next day, Sunday 12th April at 2.30pm so the Parish will be litter free.

Defibrillator Update

Our application to the British Heart Foundation was unsuccessful, probably due to the size of our parish however, they have offered to discount a defibrillator to us which would cost £1,000 plus VAT.

Wee are currently looking at other alternatives to try and fund this, so will keep you posted. Any ideas of potential sources of funding please email clerk@borastonparish.co.uk

Parish Meeting AGM

The Parish AGM date has had to be moved to Wednesday May 27th at Boraston Church starting at 7pm. All are welcome.

Regards

Mike and Phil
