Boraston and Milson have asked Shropshire Highways to consider if the Burford to Cleobury road should be re-classified as a B-Road.
The response received from Highways is as follows:
"<Highways> have looked at our traffic count data and there has not been a count on this road for some time. The last count I can find was made in 2009 on Tenbury Road near Cleobury and this survey recorded a daily flow of just over 500 vehicles per day.
Traffic levels will have increased since 2009 but not significantly so.
Unfortunately I cannot see a clear case for this route to be reclassified based on traffic levels.
While there are B roads with less traffic locally, there are also C roads with more traffic, such as C6236 at Sheet, and there are B Roads with significantly more traffic, such as the B4364 at Middleton. The average Rural C road in Shropshire carries more than 1,100 vehicles per day.
The Caynham Road, C6250, appears to carry similar volumes of traffic to the C6269 and may be similar in function as it connects the A4417 with the A49 at Ashford Carbonel.
As well as road classification, all roads in the County exist in a maintenance hierarchy. The road in question is currently a Secondary Distributor road.
A Secondary Distributor road links larger villages to the Strategic and Main Distributor network. I believe that this is also the right classification, the average rural Secondary Distributor road in Shropshire also carries 1,100 vehicle per day.
Overall, the Road Classification and Maintenance Hierarchy on this road appear to be appropriate."
